SuSE 9.1 Pro Gnome battery status problem

Recommended Posts

I am a newbie to linux and I have just installed SuSE 9.1 pro and when I try to start the battery charge applet from the panel it gives an error about acpid.socket not available. (if I type "powersave -b" in gnome console, powersave reports the battery status correctly)

However, from what I read online, acpid is included in/replaced by powersave, and in KDE, kpowersave works fine.

I was just wondering if anyone can help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't found a way to mage the GNOME battery monitor work with powersave, but it will work with acpid. You'll need to run YaST and choose Software --> Install and Remove Software. Then change the Filter dropdown to search and type acpid. From there you can install acpid. Then go to the YaST System --> Runlevel Editor, disable powersaved and enable acpid.

After that, your battery monitor should work under GNOME. The kpowersave batter monitor under KDE will still work; it just won't have as much functionality (suspend to disk, etc).

Hope this helps.
