Windows XP Home Login Problems

Recommended Posts

I am having an issue with Windows XP on an HP Pavillion xt155 laptop computer. When the computer is turned on it boots to the Windows User Name login screen, however, the user names are no longer there. I have tried going in in safe mode, but still get to that screen and still no users.

I have tried to do a repair from the Windows XP CD, but after completion, I still cannot see the users, even though I created one in the repair.

Any ideas what I can do?

SAMPSON - Ok, I have downloaded the LogonloaderRecoveryTool but I am unable to get to a command prompt to run the program. How do I get there? I tried an F8 and then selected Safe Mode with Command Prompt, but it brought up the Login Screen with no users. I do not have a floppy drive on the computer.

Alec§taar - I got to the login screen that you talked about, but the original login name does not seem to work, nor does the admin.

You could put in the System disk in your CD and boot from the floppy and choose repair. This will let you get to a c:\ prompt and you could manuever to the program from there to run it.

Or you could do this:

Start; Run; control userpasswords2

Check the box that says "Use welcome screen"

Well unfortunately none of the above worked. Once I was able to get to a dos prompt, I was unable to execute the program to correct the problem. I was also unable to get to the "run" command since I was unable to login.

I finally gave up and did a system restore from the CDs that came with the laptop. Thanks for all your help.
