New motherboard, installed drivers, reboot.... will not start!

Recommended Posts

I just upgraded from a k8 A64 to a 939 Nforce 3 ultra A64. I booted up the system.... it went nuts looking for drivers. I ran the newest forceware, installed the video drivers and then reset the system.

Well, it got to the xp loading screen and freezed. Every time I tried, it froze in the same spot. So I tried a safe mode boot and that always freezes on Mup.sys

What the heck am I supposed to do now shy of a reformat!

I recommend using your OS install CD and run thru a repair install and then install all the latest drivers and updates smile

"last good config" worked.

Ok, so I'm at a loss here.

I was able to get back into windows before with the "last known good setup" option. I tried to uninstall all the mother board drivers and video drivers. When I restarted this happend.

Safe mode: Gets to mup.sys, hangs for a second, reboots

Last known good: runs the windows xp booting up screen, freezes

Normal boot: runs the windows xp booting up screen, gives a quick BSOD and reboots

I have no clue what to do shy of ripping out the drive, copying my stuff to another computer and reformatting. I'de rather not have to rip out the drive since I have 3 drives and 6 partitions in my computer that would be great for backup.

Well like I mentioned initially I think a repair install is in order. Boot with your OS media in the CD drive and press any key when asked to boot from CD. Follow the prompts as though it was a new install instead however it should find your existing install and ask to repair this one by pressing the R key wink
