My CDROM and DVD ROM drives are not working

Recommended Posts

I have no clue whats going on one day my cdrom and dvd drive were working and the next my dvd drive was saying an error that was a paragragh long that says this.

D:\refers to a location that is unavaliable. It chould be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make shure the disk is inserted properly, or that you are connected tothe internet or your network, and then try again. If it is still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.

And im connected to the internet dont have a network and the disk was properly inserted so i have no clue on that. Then my CDROM drive stoped working and it has an error message that says this.

Windows cannot read from the disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it chould be using a format that is not compatible with windows.

This is a disk i have used many times and it worked and the disk is clean and i have no clue what chould be wrong so if you can help thanks.

This is what can be found at Microsoft:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

4. On the File menu, click Export.

5. In the File name box, type savedkey, and then click Save.

Note If this data type is missing, go to Method 2.

7. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

8. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Method 2: Replace the existing driver

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. If Control Panel is in Category view, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.

If Control Panel is in Classic view, double-click System.

3. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

4. Click the drive with the question mark next to it.

5. On the Action menu, click Uninstall. When you are prompted to confirm the removal, click OK.

6. Repeat steps 4 through 5 for any other drives with question marks.

7. On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.

How are your CD and DVD roms connected? Master/Slave Primary/Secondary IDE? If the DVD is not a read/write make a slave an see if that changes things.
