IE Install On Demand - Preventing

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

We'll use Macromedia flash as an example ...

When a page first encounter flash content and you browser does not have the flash plugin installed, or you have an older version than required, you get a popup dialog asking if you want to install the latest flash plugin. This popup allows you to say yes or no, and it allows you to tell the Browser to always trust content from Macromedia and auto-install it in the future without prompting.

Now, what I am looking for is a way to do the exact opposite. Some way to tell the browser to NEVER trust Macromedia, and thus never prompt me again, but also NOT install anything by them.

I know I can disable install on demand as a whole, but that kills the stuff I actually do want; I would like to do a blaket absolute deny on a per company basis.

Thanks for ay ideas.

As luck would have it, installing SP2 for WindowsXP addresses this issue. Under SP2, the pop-up has an "Options" dropdown, where you can now select "never install content from COMPANY NAME."

No more constant bugging for the flash player smile
