In need of serious help in running final fantasy 7 on win 2000

I have been having problems with final fantasy 7 on the P.C. I am running off windows 2000 pro, with a nivida geforce FX 5200, 600 mb of ram and a 1.5 gig pentium 4 processer.

Every time I run the game all the FMV's and opening sequences of the game ( the squaresoft sign with the running chocobo's) are being played upside down. Also at the begging of the game where you come off the train and enter the first fight, the game stalls before I even get to attack.

 

I am not sure why any of these things are happening, so any help would be greatly apprieciated.
