Is WinXP Home as good as WinXP pro?

If you're not joined to a domain (you would know if you were), then there is little difference.

A few key details there, APK...

 

1. It's a laptop, not likely a good match for a server-class OS.

2. Since the OP noted that the laptop has an XP Home CD key, it's likely that other OS's may be unlicensed.

 

Not that I disagree with your points, just those details are why I recommended staying with XP Home.
