rubel 0 Posted November 8, 2004 as i have decided to build a new system with amd processor i've found some problems on it... what is the difference between AMD ATHLON XP and AMD SEMPRON ? what should i buy amd athlon xp 2200+ or amd athlon sempron 2200+ ? mother board: asus A7V8X-X via KT400 chipset... SoulNothing 0 Posted November 9, 2004 i beleive not a hundered percent sure that sempron is amds answer to celeron which means no level 2 cache id go with the amd atholon xp 2200+ you can always overclock to make it faster and on the board not sure what socket is that Share this post Link to post
danleff 0 Posted November 9, 2004 Fast answer, the system will not boot from a SEMPRON processor without a bios update first. The Asus site doesn't support links easily, but if you go to the support page and follow the links to this board's cpu support, it clearly states; Quote: System will not boot with this processor before updaing to version 1012. Referring to the Sempron 2200+ (Model 8) or Sempron 2200+ (Model 10). So, unless you are sure that you are getting a board with the bios updated, you will need an older processor to flash the bios for support for this processor. It should be rock solid with the XP processor and Linux. I have the Soyo counterpart and it is great! Share this post Link to post
