CyberGenX 0 Posted November 16, 2004 Ok. Here is the question which is better and why? Here is my take: I believe PC is better. My reasons: 1. Better graphics 2. More titles 3. Higher resolutions / FPS 4. More options - MODs, console commands, etc. 5. FREE online play for most games 6. Better sound, in most cases 7. In game chat 8. Better controllers 9. Upgrade ability for improved game play and performance 10. Same price overall for titles The only thing i can think of that consoles have over PC is the bigger screen (for some, lol). Wicked101 0 Posted November 16, 2004 I agree too, PC's are the best, with a console all you can do is play games, with a PC you can do anything, you can upgrade it and if something breaks you can troubleshoot and fix it yourself, if that console goes you got problems. Oh yes, and another thing why PC's are better, didn't your mother ever tell you its not good to sit so close to the TV or to watch TV for too long I just love PC's, and its my job, dude, if there was PC's when I was born I would've been born with a PC under my arm. Malaris 0 Posted November 16, 2004 It depends what you want it for really, they both have lots of pros and cons. Share this post Link to post
clutch 1 Posted November 17, 2004 PC Games get hacked, cheated, and most of the time need patches. In addition, they are rarely optimized for what *you* have, and you need to buy hardware that costs more than the whole console would to make it really enjoyable. I used to be a big PC fan, but after playing the XBox for a while it's much nicer to kick back with a big screen TV in the living room. One cool thing about PC based games is that you can get cooler controllers, and FPS games are best played with the keyboard and mouse (although the SpaceOrb was even better, but like most great things it died out). DosFreak 2 Posted November 17, 2004 Time to play devil's advocate.... Originally posted by cybergenx: I believe PC is better. My reasons: Quote: 1. Better graphics Depends on the computer. It's safe to say that anyone with a GF4+/9700+ has graphics equal to or better than the XBOX...but how many PC's in the world have that configuration and surpass the XBOX in # of boxes in the household? Quote: 2. More titles PC's have greater number of games but most PC games do not tap the full potential of the PC, wheras most XBOX games pretty much do...well realisticly into the 1-2 year of the XBOX. This of course is also the limitation of the XBOX. Quote: 3. Higher resolutions / FPS True....depending on computer configuration. Quote: 4. More options - MODs, console commands, etc. True. Quote: 5. FREE online play for most games Yep, Advantage of PC's owning in internet for the past 30years and being more "open" than LIVE. Quote: 6. Better sound, in most cases Wrong. IIRC, The sound card in the XBOX is better than even the Audigy (which isn't saying much.....) Quote: 7. In game chat huh? Do you mean keyboard or something? You can do this via the XBOX controller but it's a PITA. Quote: 8. Better controllers Uhhh...A gamepad is a gamepad is a gamepad....unless it's a playstation controller and then it is a GAMEPAD. Buy I know what your saying, keyboard/mouse is where it's at. Quote: 9. Upgrade ability for improved game play and performance Yeah, but that's also the cause of the incompatibilty/instability of the PC and why games take longer to be developed for it. Quote: 10. Same price overall for titles ??? Quote: The only thing i can think of that consoles have over PC is the bigger screen (for some, lol). PC's can be connected to the big screen just as consoles can.... Now before and around the age of 10 I would play my NES very heavily until I got my first PC, a 286. After that the NES never really held my interest much anymore. The amount of PC games, BBS's, and stuff I could learn was just amazing. I've tried out every console since then....all the way up to the XBOX but the PC has always been my main gaming fix. Recently I went over to a friend's house for about 2 days and we played Halo 2 pretty heavily over Live. All I could think while playing Halo on his big screen was how FUGLY Halo it looked. No AA, No Ansio. Graphics looked the same as Halo 1. Occassionaly we experienced Lag, which also affected voice communications. The training matches took waaaayy too long to find matches. Playing split screen on a big screen is a pain in the ass too....reminded me of why I like my own screen, I hate sharing! It pretty much goes to show that those who play FPS on console on Live have just never played a REAL FPS (computer) over the Internet. I bought an XBOX for my bro and sis when it first came out because their computer is an ancient POS. So I usually but games for them when I come and visit....or I buy the games, play 'em for awhile to test 'em out on my XBOX and them give them the games. I don't have any XBOX games myself because I have waaaaaaaayyy too many PC games to beat and I love the sharpness/graphics quality of my Sony CRT 21" Trinitron and my Radeon X800. mammoth 0 Posted November 17, 2004 yep. And a computers proccesing power surpasses the XBOX by far. And the game is not limited to the disc. You dont see FS2004 for PS2, do you???? Share this post Link to post
ddematos 0 Posted November 17, 2004 I'm with Waffler on this one. Don't get me wrong, give me a choice between console or PC and i will almost always choose PC, but if you want a machine for gaming ONLY, that never needs updates or extra hardware (excluding hard drives, microphones etc for ps2, xbox etc) and doesnt need new video cards, memory, etc, you'd want a console. There are no compatibility problems with OS's, no different loading speeds (unless you have a faster model, modded or damaged console), no difference in graphics, blah blah blah. I still love PC, but im also partial to gamecube and PS2. In my opinion, microsoft and its XBOX can rot in hell. any really good games they make they will release on PC (thank you God for halo for PC!!!!). If XBOX was the only entertainment left on earth i wouldn't play it. I've played it a couple of times, hate the controller layout, and they BLOODY WELL STOLE MUNCH'S ODDYSEE FROM SONY!!! I still have old playstation mags that had previews for it! everyone is entitled to their opinion. mine is that xbox sux. [Edited by ddematos on 2004-11-17 03:47:33] Share this post Link to post
Wicked101 0 Posted November 17, 2004 Well, if you had to sit down and think about it, Xbox is acually nothing more than a PC itself, its got a processor and hard drive just like a PC, it just dont run windows, its got its own operating system Share this post Link to post
ddematos 0 Posted November 17, 2004 yeah, but im morbidly against microsoft. If it weren't for windows being the most used os, with all the best games and apps for it, id be using linux. One fun thing i heard of on the xbox, is installing linux and sending pics of it to microsoft Share this post Link to post
WRX_Rocky 0 Posted November 17, 2004 I too love PC's and the games for them. There are not many sims for a console. But I have to say this, there is ONE THING you don't get with a console . . . . . the dreaded BSOD!!!!!! Share this post Link to post
Wicked101 0 Posted November 17, 2004 Hmmm, a Linux Xbox, now that sounds interesting. You know, I'm new to Linux and I already like it more than Windows, if they could use Linux on Xbox you would have the ultimate gaming station, hee hee. I worked on Digital satellite decoders called "Dream Box", its a decoder with a Hard drive and running Linux, you can record straight to the hard drive. Pretty cool Share this post Link to post
