Please Please Provide Help w/ Small Business Server 2003 Prem. Installation...

Recommended Posts

Hello forum,

I am seeking some assistance that I have read manuals, purchased books, reinstalled server software 3 or 4 times I cant recall.. and each time I think I found the answer... the system crashes ( I.E. the intRAnet disapears returing errors). Ok here we go..my client has an existing network (if you can call it that- all peer-to-peer, pc's go from wall plug into a patch panel- to a 48 port switch, which had a Sprint DSL modem providing Internet connectivity.

They realized that there is minimal security in this configutation. So based uipon their size, forcast size, etc. a selection of Small Busieness Server 2003 Premium was obtained. The kink in the system was that the G.m. wanted the server to be brought up side-by-side so there was no "downtime on the DSL". Here is what transpired:

Set the DSL to bypass, (it was the DHCP Server), purchased a Luynksys Router plugged the DSL in and the took a port out of the Lynksys into the 48port, (which provided the no-interruption, the took another port out of the Lynksys to the patch panel going to the server. Now this server has TWO NICs, one that comes from the Lynksys (well refer to as #26) and #26 is set as a DHCP Server, Then out of the server, (is line #28)

which goes into a small 5port Lynksys hub. This is simply to allow configuration and setup of user nodes. Ok, here is the issue- I get this error message "The DNS server could not configure the network connections of this computer with the local computers IP address as the preferred DNS server...(the error message is EVENT TYPE-Warning , EVENT SOURCE-DNS, EVENT ID=2630 and 4114.)

The settings are as follows:

#26

*Obtain IP Automatically

*Obtain DNS Suto

WINS- 192.168.16.2

#28

STATIC

IP-192.168.16.2

SUB 255.255.255.0

GATE- 192.168.16.1

DNS P- 204.117.214.102

DNS2nd-192.168.1.1

It is truly imperative that I get this rectified, as the Server is behind schedule and I do not want to install it again... The idea is once the Server and services are up and solid, then simply switch controls into the new 48port switch with all users then vali[censored] thru the Small Business Server . Please find my email address below also,if you would prefer to send email. Thank you very much in advance for your time.
