Sasha 0 Posted November 26, 2004 Hi! We're totally new with Linux and seem to have a major problem. Our PC is 800Mhz, 256+128RAM and 6+20GB harddisk. First the system just tilted while trying to configure system under KDE, then we changed Matrox display card for Diamond Viper and added a processor fan. The system sort of has stopped freezing, but while downloading it had an I/O error (no 5) Input/Output. Does this mean the HD is busted? Starting the system up again all seemed fine except of lots of noice from HD which soon faded. Then this morning the system had freezed again, this time saying something like bad kernel stage plus lots of flags. We took out the smaller memorystick but probably the stupid thing will just crash again. Does anyone have an idea what's wrong with our computer? Do we need a kernel update? Is there one for MD CE10.1 or is the CE10.1 just so unstable that we should buy Mandrake 10.1 Discovery? Or should we just get a new PC? Please heee-eeelp! Share this post Link to post
egorgry 0 Posted November 26, 2004 Sounds like a hardware issue to me. I doubt it's the operating system Share this post Link to post
danleff 0 Posted November 26, 2004 Run a diagnostic from the hard drive manufacturer on the hard drive. I bet this is the problem. I have Mandrake cd 10.1 on my system, with no problems. I assume this is the only OS on the system? Share this post Link to post
