paul1729 0 Posted November 30, 2004 Hi every one, i have a fujitsu laptop that did not have a operating system or a cd drive, so i reformated and installed xp pro on the H/D useing another laptop ( compaqe ) that has a cd drive and every thing works great on that laptop...BUT... when i re-fit the H/D to the fujitsu laptop, xp wont start and i get the message, windows did not start and a promt to choose to start from normal mode / safe mode etc. i have tried all of these and it still won`t start.. the Hard drive was reformated to Ntfs on the compaqe and i have reformated & re-installed xp pro 3 times useing the compaqe laptop & still get the same message... any ideas? please Share this post Link to post
janfebmar 0 Posted November 30, 2004 uhm.. well. reading that made me remember the time i had been awake to long. and i had to install windows xp on a computer, but i was going to upgrade some parts there.. including the motherboard. then i installed windows before i changed the parts.. but that was before i remember how stupid i have been.. you cant install windows on a entire other pc, because the main parts isnt the same.. motherboards are a bitch.. you cant use the same drivers and you cant reinstall just the drivers.. so you end up to have to install windows on a clean install.. which is annoying since i update one or more pcs each year.. but but.. one gotta do what.. tf was the rest again? lol. what you could do is to connect an external cd drive to it if you have and usb plug.. otherwise try an network installation. best regards ES Share this post Link to post
janfebmar 0 Posted November 30, 2004 and yeah.. you should see if if the laptop is hardware compatible with windows xp.. try installing windows 98 or some such.. best regards ES Share this post Link to post
paul1729 0 Posted December 1, 2004 Thank you for you reply, but...i cant try to install with external usb cd drive as the usb does not work unless the operating system is installed ? Share this post Link to post
janfebmar 0 Posted December 1, 2004 do a network installation.. yes. the usb ports works in boot.. i made a boot "pen-drive" so i guess external hd's will work to. but try to do the same thing you did, but with an windows 98 then you install the windows xp on that after you have plugged it in the destined laptop. then you just choose an upgrade and copy all setup files to disk. best regards ES Share this post Link to post
