hp psc 500 and win2k driver issues

Recommended Posts

if anyone has gotten the hp 3-in-1 psc 500 to work with windows 2000, i'd really appreciate your advice. i can get it to print, but not scan. it won't install the scanner driver, the new hardware wizard tells me: 'an error occurred during the installation of the device. access is denied'. but then it goes on to successfully install the printer.

i've tried deleting hp entries on the registry to get rid of old software, i think i've got the parallel port issues straightened out. it also won't scan with the twain software, i get an error message. i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software (which i downloaded from hp). I've tried everything i could find on hp's site.

any ideas?

i'd be eternally grateful...

i'm logged in as administrator and i've erased the stuff from the registry that the hp bulletins suggest i delete. (the hp entries under lpentum and dot3 and dot4. there is also an hp entry under dot4print but the bulletin did not say anything about erasing that so i didn't.) are there other things i can do to/ with the registry? other than curse...

the other thing which may be a clue or may be irrelevant: when i tried to print with TWAIN and went to the select source option, i was offered 2 options. one was the hp psc 500, the other was the hp all-in-one. obviously these are the same, but is this some clue that the computer at some level is schitzo, i mean that i somehow haven't erased some former vestige of an old driver despite my extensive efforts??
