I having trouble figuring out how to set my button so i have regular shift and a down shift button. I see when you click on a button you can assign it as shift, but how do you set one for downshift? or can you, or do you have to do that in the game? please help

first you need to do the following: slap you head real hard and say DOH...

 

where its says assign to shift it means shift key on the keyboard not gear shift that is why you see no down shift option because a keyboard doesnt have a downshift key

 

set up you gear up + gear down buttons in the game
