Just a general statment

MOst consumers are not like us. They dont knwo much about computers. and they do not know how good/powerful win2k is. Especially with articles liek taht 63,000 bug thing, I could belive the idiots that published that.

http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2436920,00.html?chkpt=zdhpnews01

if u check the poll it says that 76 percent of the people wont be buying it. And that ISNT just the normal no knowledge consumer those are actual people who browse the net, looking at articles reading stuff, trying to learn.

I tend to babble a lot so Ill try to make it short. If 76 percent of the somewhat knowledgable people say they wont buy it, think about the number of goats that hear that on the news and will get scared ****less. It was on the news in my area (Virginia, USA) recently.

Point being, hardware companies, will provide drivers and everything but they are going to take time to come out (possibly many more months for obscure hardware), I mean just because we are online all the time and make up a LARGE population of the educated buyers, the goofy buyers are MUCH greater in numbers (but we dont see them around obviously cuz they dont bother with forums, bbs's,, and newsgroups, heck u guys have seen the kidna questions we get in here, and this is supposed to be the smarter end :)), and WONT be running win2k, not for some time at least.

So just be prepared for a few dissapointments when win2k is officially released and drivers are slow in coming. Complaining here to us wont help ya smile

Enough ranting for now, Ill add more later smile

I have read a lot of people won't get it until the 1st SP comes out. We all have to remember that people are going on news and havent tried it yet.

so true and so sad but the big guns love there sheep and they love money so they will push the dumby on to W2k but your right it will take a bit (well 90% of my machine works and 1000x better then 98 or 95 ever ran so for me it is worth the wait)

All of this is true, the sad part about people wanting to switch for Win9x to Win2k is the price tag. Its really a shame that people are going to be pretty much forced into buying Windows Millennium in May just because the don't have the budget for Win2k, Microsoft really should drop the price a bit.

Well if the sheep don't waste their money on Win ME then they shoud be able to afford win2k by the time Win ME comes out don't you think?

I know what you're talking about when you talk about others being pushed into another OS choice: My best friend has been running Win2K for months and absolutely loves it. His brother-in-law came to him and told him that he was buying a new computer and wanted his advice on what to purchase. Well, his brother-in-law wanted a portable and they researched together and found a Toshiba portable that had been certified by Toshiba to work with Windows 2000. So the brother-in-law goes to buy it... To make a long story short, the salesperson convinced the brother-in-law that Windows 98 was the way to go (even though Win2K was available?!?!) and that he would really want to get Window ME instead when it becomes available.

My friend got ticked at his brother-in-law, but is more upset with the idiot salesperson who convinced his brother-in-law that Windows 98 would be better than Windows 2000 (this for a portable used for business - not for games.)

Regards...

the whole story reminds me M$ vs. Netscape but in other way round; M$ vs. Linux. If M$ wannts to stay ahead and not 2nd MUST NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES RELEASE WIN Me (so selfish!-sorry for shouting ;)) they should:

1) sell only one os ->win2k professionnal (or better "basic") for $150 (in 3 editions; basic, server, datacenter)

2) to the extend of what ThC129 said, release Win2k on Thursday together with SP1 wink hehehe...

While I know what I'm in for in the next few weeks/months, I will nonetheless put on my stupid-mask and complain to the [gaming] companies about their software not working on Win2k.

I figure that pretending to be a clueless user who thought Win2k was the natural successor to Win9x will hopefully convince those companies to update their programs for us "morons." Heck, I can't tell the difference between a CD-ROM drive and a hard disk--or at least that how I will want to appear. (Real-world example: "I know how much RAM it's got, but I don't know how much ROM.")

The squeaky wheel gets the oil.
