FiGgY 0 Posted February 13, 2000 How do I force DMA or disable the "Use Dma if available" startup check ? There are no busmastering drivers available as yet Windows98 works fine with dma checked and with the udma drivers. Anyone help? Share this post Link to post
Shrink 0 Posted February 13, 2000 HuH? I you enable "DMA if available" under the primary or secondary IDE channels in IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers under device manager, what happens? If the device is capable of DMA or UDMA modes, that will be detected and selected. What type of device are you referring to? What is listed in Current Transfer Mode? ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Share this post Link to post
FiGgY 0 Posted February 15, 2000 The chipset is Sis 5513. It suppoerts DMA/UDMA/ATA33/WHATEVER The HDD is a Quantum Fireball 6.4 EX ATA33 Linux supports udma with this setup (12.55mb/sec) Win9x supports udma with this setup (10mb/sec) your missing the [point], i want to disable the startup check because it selects PIO (2.5mb/sec) over udma ;which is slow and crap any suggestions?????????? Shrink 0 Posted February 16, 2000 I would not recommmend overriding that setting - if the drivers don't support udma or dma then they don't support udma. If you have selected DMA if available, then if it is not selected you will hose your system otherwise. This isn't like the little checkmark in Win9x where you can override the setting. Check with SIS for newer drivers. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Share this post Link to post
