chewtoy 0 Posted January 4, 2005 I used the forum to correct the Floppy Disk (40) error. I rotated the cable 180 degrees and the constant led went off. But now the drive won't read any disks. I thought it was the drive it's self so I tried another one, and that doesn't work either. I also checked the BIOS to ensure that the "Check Boot Floppy" was disabled. Any other ideas? This is a high priority thing. I need to install an ancient program for my father and he wants it done last month. Thanks! Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted January 4, 2005 The other option you have is to purchase a USB Floppy Drive, these are external units and cost about $40~50. I know it's not a cheap solution however if the motherboard has a defective FDC then this is usually cheaper then purchasing another motherboard Also, you have tried out a different floppy drive cable have you not ?!? These are dirt cheap now a days Remember the rule on connecting floppy drives: A: drive is after the twist in the cable, the end connector. The B: drive is before the twist in the cable, the middle connector! Share this post Link to post

AndyFair 0 Posted January 5, 2005 Before you go out and buy more stuff, go into the BIOS and check that the floppy controller is enabled (forget where it is, usually in the section of the BIOS that is to do with integrated controllers). Even if the controller is disabled, the BIOS summary will still show a floppy drive, even though it doesn't actually know whether there's one there or not... ;( Just something to check Rgds AndyF Share this post Link to post
