Honestly, believe it or not, but downloading TV show is illegal. My wife's studying law so I have to try and stay on the good side of the law and there they said that you are allowed to make a copy of an original, but you are not allowed to make a copy of that copy, that is illegal, and downloading a TV show is making a copy of a copy. If you buy a music CD you are allowed to make a copy, well, I think its something like 7 copies (not 100% sure about that but I know its something close to 7 copies), but you are not allowed to make a copy of one of those copies. There, that is right out of the mouth of the horse (Law horse that is:)) Share this post Link to post
BabyBoy-- 0 Posted January 14, 2005 the thing is i believe everytime a show plays on tv the company that broadcasts it pays the author therefore it is illegal because you do not pay that fee Share this post Link to post
thatsteveguy 0 Posted January 14, 2005 That's right. You are allowed to record a show for your own use but you are not allowed to pass the video to someone else. S PS the laws are a little different here in Canada when it comes to file sharing. I am allowed legally to download copyrighted material but I am not allowed to upload it. I am also allowed to share a drive and let people access it to download from me whatever they want. Let's put it this way. I buy a music cd and I lend it to a friend. Here in canada he is allowed to make a copy of it for his own use but I cannot buy a CD and make a copy to give to my friend. He has to make the copy himself. This is why the RIAA has no power here and cannot prosecute anyone on this side of the border. They do not like it but tough this is not their country. I don't condone piracy etc but the RIAA and MPAA have been given way to much power in this regard and they seriously need to reign them back. S Share this post Link to post
