scottgoodmen 0 Posted January 25, 2005 At work we like to use NET SEND to send instant messages to other employees. Most of use can Send and Receive without problems, but some of the employees that use Laptops can only Send, but not Receive.. But If they Send a message to themself they will Receive it.. ( go figure ) I checked the Settings and Messenger is set to automatic, So I assume its not turned off.. How can I fix this problem? Thanks- Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted January 25, 2005 AFAIK, any machine connected to the network has to be a member of the domain, if you have a PDC or the same workgroup. Chances are they are not and this is why the messenger service is not working for them. However I think you can send to a direct IP address as well. I personally hate this service so I turn it off, but give this a shot and try net send to the specific IP address and see what happens. Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted January 26, 2005 Make sure: "Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP" is enabled. For some reason Default doesn't work on some computers. Tracked this problem down before I left my last base. Unfortunately the base servers are run by contractors so I couldn't check the server configs. So it's on my list of things to look into once I can get back on some servers. ScinteX 0 Posted January 26, 2005 If you want an alternative you can try using Microsoft Agents! Just find a VB programmer and tell them you want the robot to pop up in the system tray and say something amusing You can write a server side exe that coordinates all messages, user groups etc- also gives you statuses of who's in/out. Actually.... using a messgener program might just be easier (doh!) Some nice freebies (some use NET SEND, some don't) http://download-ecke.de/nonags/conflan.html S Share this post Link to post
