John Cold 0 Posted February 17, 2005 Greetings Commrades, Has anybody had trouble installing rpm packages from cd-rom? everytime i try to add updates through the add/remove packages tool i get the same error saying "Error reading packages...exiting now. i click ok and it shuts down the whole add/remove package tool window. Could it be that the cd-rom is crappy and would burning a new one solve my problem. J.Cold Share this post Link to post
danleff 0 Posted February 18, 2005 Which distro are you using? If you are "up[censored]" then most likely the source is the internet. If you are adding packages (programs) then the issue could be a bad cdrom disk, or you burned the disk at too high a speed, so it is not being read properly. Iso files like slow burn speeds, say 4X or 8X. The other issue sometimes is making sure that you inserted the proper cdrom disk in the series...disk 1 vs. disk 2 and so on. Finally what media are you using? older cdrom drives don't generally like cdrw disks and can have trouble reading them properly. Share this post Link to post
