Anyone running Win2k Pro on a K6-2 450, 128 megs sdram? How is the performance compared to Win98 with same setup?

I have the same setup.

Windows 2000 runs GREAT!! My wife has Windows 98 SE on her machine and I am constantly rebooting it because of random lockups. The only time I reboot is when I load a new program or I play a game that isn't quite optimized for 2000. (Need better video drivers)

Win2000 Rocks!

LOL. I have a k6-2 450 on an mvp3 board with 64 megs of ram and suprisingly it runs very well. But it would LOVE 128.

Thx guys, im really stoked to get win2000 pro installed now. Cant wait to see how Ultima 9 runs on it. U9 ran pretty well on win98 already. Now if Matrox would just come out with a non-beta g400 driver for me hehe

Same configuration here...

It runs pretty smooth, although i had some problems with my TNT2. It looks like i fixed them, found some generic drivers at: http://www.joytech.com/support/support_all.htm

and AGP support is enabled and working, no more dumb BSODs...in my case, i think the problem is the chipset (alladin V) gfx (TNT2) combo...

On the other hand, i wouldn't mind 64 MB more (192 total)!! 256 is a bit too much for what i'm doing, and there is no dramatic performance increase from 192.

a k6-2 and 128MB is perfect, it is for me, it the chipset that knackers everything though. My fic va-503+ and TNT don't want to know each other! Even with a new bios, that fixes the interrupt assignment, similar to the patch needed fow win9x

Well I have an FIC PA-2013 rev 2.0 mobo running 115JI37 bios (almost the latest, they just posted a new one but I saw no need to flash it). Any problems with that one that you know of?

Quick cut and paste of fic automated response with some slightly interesting stuff:

http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/motherboards/pentium/VA-503+.htm http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/motherboards/pentium/pa-2013.htm

Here are two popular FIC models' support page, user can get first aid under each's FAQ, if your model is different, all you need is replace model name after last slash, for example VB-601 user replace it as http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/motherboards/pentium/vb-601.htm

Y2K & Extended INT13 issue, update bios can be found under our FTP server each model subdir.

ATA/66 HD and VIA miniport driver IRQ routing issue is post on FAQ.

My bios settings conflict at 2F8 and even when it is changed win98 does not recognize the mouse which is pc2.

Please try to enter bios to load everything in default and reboot again, or use flash program bundel with original bios to flash bios again with /cc /cd to force bios reset totally again. it is CMOS parameter mis interpret with new bios issue, CMOS must update to correct it.

All bios released for VA-503+ are not compliant to ACPI, please do not install win98 with /P/J or it will report COM & LPT error.

Both Siemen & Micron SDRAM has compatible issue with our VA-503+ & PA-2013. our engineer is studing now. Before any update for this issue please avoid these two brands of SDRAM.(7/16/99)

(10/12/99)

JE4322 bios released to fix Win98 SE and Windows2000 ACPI mode error to report resource conflict on I/O port & printer port, and support Pioneer 103S 6X DVD as UDMA mode (most DVD-ROM also benefit from this update to be read as UDMA instead of PIO4).

Note this is primarily for the VA-503+ mobo i think. The bios I have is actually JK4324 which is similar to the one mentioned above.

Same setup and Windows 2000 works flawlessly... I just can't get Ultima 9 to work. hehe but I know why it doesn't, the drivers don't have D3D fully functional. I get Z-buffer errors... and crap like that.

Looks like I'm gonna have to wait at least a month... frown
