HELP NEEDED PLEASE

I've installed The Sims 2 on my pc. At first it plays ok, then after a couple hours playing (sometimes less) I get the following message sayins "This application has crashed. This application will now terminate."

 

My apecs are fine, I've been advised to download and run an update for my graphics card which I did. Anyone who can help me I would be eternally grateful.
