What DirectX you got?

Start->Run. Execute "Dxdiag" without quotes.

Goto Display tab.

Enable DirectDraw, Direct3D, and AGP Texture Acceleration, if disabled and not grayed out.

Right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties.

Click on the Performance tab at the top.

Now click on the Graphics button at the bottom.

If the Hardware acceleration is "Full", move it to left by one step. Reboot. Try running game. If it does not help, move the slider to "None" and try again.

Try this:

start the dxdiag again, go to Sound "n" tab, where "n" is number of your soundcards/devices. Your primary soundcard is usually 1.

Locate "Hardware Sound Acceleration Level" slider. Reduce the acceleration by one notch and re-test the application. Repeat until the sounds somewhat works or you can not anymore reduce it.

You can also try this:

Start Control Panel.

Doble-click the Multimedia icon.

The Multimedia Properties window appears.

Click the box next to Use preferred devices only so that it contains a check mark.

Click the Advanced Properties button (located in the Playback area).

Click the Performance tab.

Click the Hardware Acceleration slider bar and move it to the Basic Acceleration setting.

Click OK.

Click OK again to close the Multimedia Properties window.

Close the Control Panel.

Retry running game.
