pulphero 0 Posted February 21, 2005 After fighting off a browser hijack infection, I installed lots of security software: AVG Antivirus, Symantec Firewall, SpyBot, Spyware Blaster, Spyware Guard, and a new HOSTS file. I got rid of all my infections, but today I notice that I can't do some things on the Web that I used to be able to do. Such as: --> on eBay, I can't contact other members (via eBayISAPI.dll) --> on eBay, I can't search for completed items --> on half.com, I can't contact other members (via a CGI script) Whenever I try to do these things, IE6 spits back a 'page cannot be displayed' page. --> also, I can't use the eBay toolbar at all I'm assuming that something I installed is blocking my access to these things. So I tried disabling the firewall, but I'm still blocked. I tried changing the name of the new HOSTS file to HOSTS.OLD and then rebooting, but I'm still blocked (and I see that Windows didn't create a new HOSTS file for me). I'm stumped. I'm thrilled to have a secure computer. But I don't want to be blocked from doing essential Web tasks. Please help! Thanks. Bob McLain Share this post Link to post
Wilhelmus 1 Posted February 21, 2005 Have you checked the IE settings for Internet level? Can you access those pages from other browser (eg. firefox, opera)? The HOSTS should only contain this: 127.0.0.1 localhost Does your hijack this log have suspicious entries? Share this post Link to post
