l0st 0 Posted March 1, 2005 I'm trying to figure out how to transfer files from my mac running os 9.2 to my xp machine..so far I've read that it'd be easier to emulate os 8 on my xp box and do it that way, but I don't think that's the only way. can anyone help with this? jmmijo 1 Posted March 1, 2005 Are the machines networked via ethernet ?!? If so then you should be able to use something like an FTP server on the XP side and an appropriate FTP client on the MAC side. I'm not sure about using the File & Printer sharing options however, as this applies to Windows machines. I'm not sure if OS9.xx has support for this. Another option maybe to use something like Samba, however, I'ver not really played around with this much Share this post Link to post
l0st 0 Posted March 1, 2005 ftp...never thought of that.. lol, I was just about to archive the stuff on my gmail account too I'll try the ftp idea..if it works for xboxes, it should work for macs thanks! Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted March 2, 2005 and since it's over a LAN then it should be pretty darn fast too Share this post Link to post
theefool 0 Posted March 2, 2005 I know for a fact that unix and NT can both share hard drive space. About 5 years ago, while in the navy, I worked at a place that had a 5 terabyte file server that users had home directories that they could access with either their NT box or their Unix box. Not two seperate "home" directories, but the same. http://www.javvin.com/diskaccessdetail.html <--- costs money, but it can be done... http://www.xlink.com/eval.htm <--- 15 day trial http://www.fileheaven.com/NFS-client-and-server-for-windows-ProNFS/download/10099.htm <--- $40 (I think) Though, they said free download...hmmm And finally, SAMBA, which is free. I haven't tried this, but looks promising. http://us2.samba.org/samba/ Hope this helps! Share this post Link to post
l0st 0 Posted March 2, 2005 well, I couldn't get ftp to work, and I have no clue how samba works (though I'm gonna read about it). so I used aim...lol it wasn't that bad though..transfers at 378kb/s os9 is unix? :? Share this post Link to post
Jerry Atrik 0 Posted March 2, 2005 just a thought on the ftp thing is the xp firewall turned on? what about the passive ftp mode. unrelated: i just did my first fedora install last weekend. played with it now im going to do a debian install and play with that Share this post Link to post
l0st 0 Posted March 12, 2005 well, I guess I'll update on this little 'quest' of mine. I got all the files I needed transferred through aim, just in time, too; the little 6gb drive in the mac finally killed itself on the next reboot! kinda pissed me off there ¬.¬; it had a good life though..6 years, at least! so, I had to sacrifice my 40gb maxtor to the apple toy. I can't wait 'till it's officially mine though (it's still 'technically' my sister's). I'm gonna throw a huge hsf on it's tiny 333mhz core and overclock the hell out of it! I'm gonna try for the 500mhz range, and try to install osx on it lol a future note to anyone who finds themselves needing to do this (not bloody likely ): dropstuff all the documents/apps/preferences you want into one large archive, then transfer it. I didn't do this, and xp renamed all of the apps and preferences I transferred, and now they're useless ;( Share this post Link to post
