GuY 0 Posted February 20, 2000 hi, I don't know much about dual cpu's and win2k. I have a Dual p2 400 (runs at 896, 448 each cpu). In the BIOS on the start up it runs in dual, but I don't know if win2k is running dual. I have a VD3 2000 and a Montego II quadzilla soundcard in this computer. I was told that voodoo's don't support dual and I don't know if the soundcard does either. I am running win2k pro final. Can you guys tell me how to get my computer running its best and where i can get drivers or what I should replace so it runs in dual. Also what should I do in q3. I hear this command r_smp 1 but everytime I type it in nothing happens. Is this due to the fact that one of my two cpu's is nolonger working when I enter windows? Any and all help is greatly appricated! Thanks guys Share this post Link to post

Silent-IQ 0 Posted February 20, 2000 do see if you have dual cpu's in win2k right click on the win startmenubar and schoose taskmanager...there choose preformance and if you see 2 cpu graphs then you have dual in win2k...when it comes to Q3A and dual with voodoo3 2000...well sorry man you aint gonna make that work for a while coz 3dfx drivers aint supporting smp...so get yourself a geforce if you whanna play quake with smp...but the truth is that you aint gonna get much more with 2 proccesors..so its not worth it.. i got a Dual P3/133Mhz with 256Mb/133mhz RAM and already with 1 proccesor i choke my AsusV3800 Ultra Deluxe TNT2 card..so when i run Q3 with 2 proccesors..i get 5 fps more.. Awaxx 0 Posted February 20, 2000 You get only 5 more fps because of you video card (unable to fill enough polygone). But you can run a LAN server on one CPU and play on the other !!! Awx Share this post Link to post
APV_SAV 0 Posted February 21, 2000 Let's make clear one thing, dual doesn't mean you get 2x performance even your hardware drivers support SMP, dual means 2x (maybe more) more stable and if you do a lot of multi tasking like i do, you will appreciate dual. Share this post Link to post
