DaveLaRocque 0 Posted March 30, 2005 I have set up Windows 2003 SBS running Exchange 2003. I have two nics and a router. Router ip=192.168.1.1, nic1 ip=192.168.1.100, nic2(lan) ip = 192.168.10.1. I can send and receive email within the local domain. I can recieve email from the internet. I cannot send email out to the internet. I am missing something in the configuration of the SMTP server. Not sure what other info to provide. Please Help!!?? Share this post Link to post
AndyFair 0 Posted March 30, 2005 There are two possible causes for this, depending on how your SBS machine is set up. Is your SBS machine configured to send e-mail directly to the host, or is it going through a proxy machine (e.g. your ISP's mail server)? Is DNS set up correctly - can you ping external addresses from the server? Share this post Link to post
DaveLaRocque 0 Posted March 30, 2005 I can ping and resolve host names from my server using DNS on the server. I have it setup to resolve host names using DNS, not by smarthost. How do I enable logging for the SMTP service? I checked Windows\System32\LogFiles and don't have anything resembling SMTPlog Share this post Link to post
peterh 1 Posted March 30, 2005 Open Exchange Manager, expand Administrative Groups, <group>, Servers, Server, Protocols, SMTP Virtual Server and enable logging on General tab. Share this post Link to post
DaveLaRocque 0 Posted March 31, 2005 Excerpt from SMTP Log: (IP address masked to protect the innocent) Software: Microsoft Internet Information Services 6.0 #Version: 1.0 #Date: 2005-03-30 22:09:17 #Fields: time c-ip cs-method cs-uri-stem sc-status 22:09:17 xxx.xxx.61.11 EHLO - 250 22:09:17 xxx.xxx.61.11 MAIL - 250 22:09:17 xxx.xxx.61.11 RCPT - 250 22:09:17 xxx.xxx.61.11 xexch50 - 504 22:09:17 xxx.xxx.61.11 BDAT - 250 22:09:17 xxx.xxx.61.11 QUIT - 240 22:09:27 xxx.xxx.38.245 HELO - 250 22:09:27 xxx.xxx.38.245 MAIL - 250 22:09:27 xxx.xxx.38.245 RCPT - 250 22:09:27 xxx.xxx.38.245 DATA - 250 22:09:27 xxx.xxx.38.245 QUIT - 240 This is worse than Latin for me. Does anything jump out here? Share this post Link to post
theefool 0 Posted March 31, 2005 Been awhile since I looked at this stuff, but the numbers on the end resort to codes, the 250 is an acceptance code, So, everything is good until Xexch50 - 504 which might refer to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;843106&sd=ee If not, please respond back.... Also.....what does even viewer say? Share this post Link to post
DaveLaRocque 0 Posted March 31, 2005 Weird - I can receive internal and external mail, can send internal mail but not internet mail. Also, the Event Viewer had POP3 errors, but no SMTP errors. Does this make ANY sense. I always thought POP3 was incoming and SMTP was outgoing. Here is the text from an Event Error: ============ An error occurred during a POP3 transaction to server <rocksolidcomp.com [Dave]>. The error is 10061 (No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. ). For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. ============ Clicking the link took me to a "no additional info" page. Share this post Link to post

kiev79 0 Posted August 16, 2005 I have the same problem. Has anyone been able to resolve this? I'm at the end of my wits here, and tried absolutely everything to send e-mail to an outside domain. Please help! Share this post Link to post
peterh 1 Posted August 16, 2005 Have you configured an SMTP Connector so that SMTP messages can be routed to a Smart Host such as an ISP's mail server? Also, make sure that the SMTP server can resolve email domains using DNS. If it cannot resolve external dns names it cannot determine where to send external mail! Share this post Link to post
