logging on to windows 2000 professional

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm not very computer savvy. I clicked on the Neighborhood Netword icon on my computer with Windows 2000 Professional on it to see if I could access data on my other 2 computers. Before I knew it I somehow locked myself out. I cannot logon to the system. Right away it populates the User ID field with my user name, but right away another message pops up that the system could not log me on. "Make sure your User Name & Domain are correct, then enter your Password." I DON'T HAVE A DOMAIN. Cannot remember what I entered when I started fooling around with it. Only screen I can access is BIOS SETUP UTILITY. The Supervisors PW & User PW let me into this screen. NOTHING WORKS! I have some very urgent work in the computer that I need to access. Can anyone please help!

PS: Have tried inserting installation disk is CD Rom. Nothing happens!

Can other users access the computer?

Are you using the Administrator account or your own?

If your using your own account then:

Try logging with Administrator account and then

1) Right click "My Computer", select "Manage".

2) Doubleclick "Local Users and Groups" in the "Computer Management" box.

3) Doubleclick "Users".

4) Now doubleclick the account you want to 'unlock'.

5) Remove check from "Account locked out" box.

6) Close the Local users and groups app.

7) Logout and retry login.

Is the CD-ROM/DVD drive set to FIRST booting device in BIOS?

Suggested order is CD/DVD, floppy, hard disk.
