-FiVe- 0 Posted April 14, 2005 This is why some people say compatibility doesn’t work for the older games “if the game makes a direct call to the Hardware then the compatibility won't help since it's not going through the OS. The Windows bible says that you're not supposed to make direct calls to the hardware but that didn't stop a lot of game programmers doing it to get a little more efficiency out of the slower hardware of the time. These days with DirectX and power to spare it isn't an issue but those old games require those calls and sadly, XP makes it impossible. After all if you can directly call the PCs hardware, bypassing the OS entirely, then all the OS's security features go out of the window” IS THERE ANYWAY AROUND THIS!!!! Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted April 14, 2005 List the games that your having trouble with. Share this post Link to post
Wilhelmus 1 Posted April 14, 2005 Why do not they work? Do they give any errors? Share this post Link to post
-FiVe- 0 Posted April 14, 2005 they lag and warp in single and multiplayer, new games work fine Share this post Link to post
-FiVe- 0 Posted April 17, 2005 hey guys i was just on another forum and a guy told me that if i had win98 and got the win xp ugrade version that things would work out, think that'll work? Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted April 17, 2005 No, upgrading from XP is no different from doing a clean install except with the upgrade you have the option of reverting back to 98. It does not affect compatibility. Share this post Link to post
-FiVe- 0 Posted April 17, 2005 oh ok. how easy is the reverting back to 98? do you mean uninstalling and all that or just a matter of clicking a button so to speak Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted April 17, 2005 Good question. I've never done it since I always do clean installs. I have had to clean people's systems that did do upgrades from 9x to XP. Man what a horrible experience. Share this post Link to post
-FiVe- 0 Posted April 17, 2005 lol maybe i wont try the upgrade then. so without installing win98 my best bet to get rogue spear to work properly would be virtual pc? Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted April 17, 2005 IIRC, both of the games worked fine for me in 2000/XP but it's been quite some time. Can you explain the prob in more detail? I'll see if I can test them tonight. Share this post Link to post
-FiVe- 0 Posted April 18, 2005 in the rogue spear lobby for single and multi player my mouse cursor freezes for a couple seconds as i move it or whenever i have to click on something like to change a weapon or to go to the next page and when the game starts online everyone warpes only i get it. single player will also lag a bit. unreal tournament was just super fast, i would stop and the screen would sort of "twitch" and then i would ressume running at lightning speeds. i tried right clicking on desktop/properties/settings/advanced/troubleshoot and scrolled down the acceleration so that all DirectDraw and Direct 3D accelerations, as well as all cursor and advanced drawing accelerations were disabled. This has fixed my cursor from freezing in the debriefing lobby, but the cursor leaves a trail instead. lol the graphics look like crap and i run around faster than usual. and online game warps madly still. i've pretty much tried all the compatibility options Share this post Link to post
