cbk 0 Posted May 1, 2005 I have recently purchased a new computer came with WinXP pro, after copying and installed those MSDos program (mainly Walkie Talkie and PABX programs, I am disppointed that over 90% of these program would not run. Earlier I was using Win 98 2nd Edition where I can easily exit to MSDos or going to Command Prompt which may help to run these programs. Any solutions ? Thank you. Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted May 1, 2005 NT3.x/4/2000/XP/2003 emulate MS-DOS in the form of NTVDM....well not exactly emulation but that's too technical to go over. Point is, NTVDM does not allow emulate or allow the access to the Host hardware that some MS-DOS programs need. Alot of MS-DOS program will work fine in NTVDM....but alot do not. For those cases that do not there are serveral choices: 1. Dual-boot with Windows 98. (Most compatible option). 2. Use an emulator: Http://dosbox.sourceforge.net Bochs Qemu Vmware Microsoft Virtual PC 3. Various 3rd party utilities: VDMSound, VGAFIX (To fix VESA access issues), SAPUCDEX (To fix broken NTVDM MSCDEX driver), SOLVBE (Another utility for VESA access, ability to run VESA in a Windows), NOLFBLIM (Disable LFB for DOS programs that can fallback to non LFB modes). Do your programs require the use of Parallel/COM ports? If so you'd probably be better off with Vmware/Virtual PC. Try both...I personally prefer Vmware over VPC except gaming and DOS which VPC emulates better. Share this post Link to post
