Another RAM question.

Recommended Posts

Ok. Forget my previous post about dual channel this has nothing to do with that this is just a question about RAM in general.

From what I understand you can use ram that is a higher frequency than the mobo supports but the memory will only run as fast as the mobo supports right?

Also, this only applies to FASTER ram and NOT slower ram right? If the ram is slower than what the mobo supports then the ram will not work but if its faster it will just work at a slower speed right???

Thanks.

The RAM will run at whichever speed is the lowest of motherboard speed and RAM speed.

You should be able to use slower RAM in a motherboard, but it will run at the rated speed of the RAM, not the rated speed of the motherboard.

If this relates to your dual-channel memory question, then you should make sure to use matched pairs of PC3200/DDR400 or faster memory modules/sticks smile
