mncoughlin 0 Posted May 25, 2005 It is OK to shut down the service IF- Your network has another DNS server acting as a primary or secondary server. The other DNS servers are advertised to your clients If you do not verify this you will not have IP to Name resolutions. Share this post Link to post
sbostedor 0 Posted May 27, 2005 While you can point the TCP/IP properties of the DC to access a DNS server on another server on the network, I suggest leaving it local. I am assuming that you mean an Active Directory domain. The reason that I say this is for availabillity. As a general rule, every one of your DC's should also be DNS servers for themselves and for all of the clients that authenticate against them. This way if they are cut off from the other DC's, they will still be able to authenticate and regsiter the computers that come to them.
