Play Dead 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Hi all, I've got a Win2k server running RAID-5 on an Adaptec SCSI RAID 3210S adapter. The array contains 3 Maxtor AtlasIII 36GB SCSI HDD. The day before I decided to add one more HDD to the array. I used the Adaptec Storage Manager Pro to add the disk to the existing array and then reconfig it. However, after some time, I changed my mind and decided to config the disk as a hotspare instead of expanding the array. So I stopped the operation......then the Windows started to crash. I tried to reboot the server, but it can no longer be boot again. The array is broken. I would like to know if there's any way to recover the array. I've tried many possibilities, but still no luck. The problem is the newly added drive, is there a way to remove it from the original RAID? If it really cannot be recovered, can I get the data back from the broken array using some data recovery program (e.g. EasyRecovery Pro)? Thanks very much. Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted June 14, 2005 I think you hosed the array, perhaps a data recovery app like R-Studio will help you out here. You need to connect up another large capaciy HD to recover the data onto, also you appear to need to install an OS onto this drive first then you should be able to install R-Studio and attempt to recover the data. I'm surprised the controller allowed you to stop the process without any warnings stating the array maybe damaged if you abort the process ?!? Share this post Link to post
theefool 0 Posted June 14, 2005 I'm surprised too. Never stop a process that you started when working with Raid Arrays. As you can see, this messes up what you were doing. Since you started up a totally new process, I'm not sure exactly what needs to be done to fix this. R-studio may work, or if the data is important enough, there are places out there that can recover dead arrays. Share this post Link to post
