I am using Fedora Core 4 i386 on 64-bit AMD computer. but it is working fine. no problems. My FC4 has 2 ethernet cards. both work with linux. but the problem is when I try to make the network. windows didnot pick up. it says that network cable is unplugged. but i put the ip address and DNS address as well. please tell me how can i solve this problem. For Linux. 1st ethernet card is working on dhcp. it is on attached to the cable modem. 2nd ethernet card configration is as follow. ip address: 192.168.1.1 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: Empty Primary DNS: 194.168.4.100 Secondary DNS: 192.168.8.100 ============================================== For windows. ip address: 192.168.1.2 subnetmask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 Primary DNS: 194.168.4.100 Secondary DNS: 194.168.8.100 Share this post Link to post
kf6kmx 0 Posted July 2, 2005 Didnt see that you mentioned, are you plugging the XP box directly into the Linux box without a hub/switch? If so, this may sound basic, but are you using a crossover cable? You didnt mention what network cards you have, a few of the new ones will handle the crossover on their own, but most dont. If the XP box is showing cable unplugged, its a hardware issue first. It will show the cable as connected, even without a working IP address. Share this post Link to post
leafleaves 0 Posted July 2, 2005 this trouble ,issues have been met by me before. just seem to like this. but the two computers, one is apart ,far far away from the one. over than one hundread metres. from the foundation, basic, common cable cant transffer over than 100 meres, say this is a foundation distance, as a matter of face, from my experiments(emphasize:i have done it in the exactly), the common ethernet cable really can transfer over two hundread metres. emphasize again, over two hundreds metres. from what i say below, you will say i am a crazy man.or you will say, i am a mad guy. or surprised with me.and you want to ask me,what and how you do that??? this question answer is really too simply.just LOCK THE ETHERNET SPEED AT 10 MAGEBYTE per second. for xp ,the configuration is at: ethernet card porpery --->point the button :ethernet card configuration --->selected the options:speed --->selected :for switcher ,10 full mode; for hub ,10 half mode. after below action, and point right the button "OK",and reboot xp computer. everything will okay, over 200 metres can transfer excellent, well. this is my experience,my experment. okay, now ,you will try yourself. specially point one point, although, your cable is not long.but maybe the envirenment temperature is hot, or other reasons.etc.like this. the ethernet card will tip "unplugged". i have a colleague ever happen like this. the words "unplugged" maybe means non links, didnt linkt together, right??? the xp computer didnt pick up.please try LOCK THE ETHERNET SPEED METHORD. okay, action, just do it now. goog luck to you. i have read and checked your ethernet ip configuration Share this post Link to post
