HuntTheShunt 0 Posted July 13, 2005 I'm having trouble with port forwarding with a Billion 5100 router for Counter-Strike I've spent 2 days or more on this and I still get "Couldn't allocate dedicated server IP port 27015. Any one into this stuff? Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted July 13, 2005 Well my Linksys router has a nice local Web interface for logging onto the router configuration settings. I'm assuming this one does too. Once you've logged onto the router you should be able to find an advanced setting that has something about the Port Forwarding. You may need to specify a range of port addresses or just a couple of them and usually you have to specify whether it's going to be used for TCP/IP and/or UDP packets. Do you have a manual for this router, perhaps an online PDF document that came on the CD with the router ?!? Also check out the manufacturers website for more info on this as well Share this post Link to post
American Zombie 0 Posted July 13, 2005 Go to Port Forward and I think you shall find the info you seek. Port Forward has info on almost every router made. Share this post Link to post
ross_aveling 0 Posted July 13, 2005 Great link there AZ, probably one of the most useful sites I've ever seen. Share this post Link to post

Yes it is a good site and it is the one I used to check all my settings. But it seems that the problem is providing open ports. Share this post Link to post

OK, just a thought here, you have actually tried removing your firewall/router from the network and connected directly to your broadband modem/router or is this an all in one unit including the broadband modem as well ?!? I'm just curious if indeed the problem still exists after removing something from the equation Share this post Link to post
HuntTheShunt 0 Posted July 16, 2005 [i'm just curious if indeed the problem still exists after removing something from the equation ] I like your thinking! That’s why I try and turn all other stuff off eg:Software firewalls for my test. [OK, just a thought here, you have actually tried removing your firewall/router from the network and connected directly to your broadband modem/router or is this an all in one unit including the broadband modem as well ?!?] As I understand it my Billion ADSL router is an all in one unit complete with port switch/Router plus a they say a firewall. The firewall part I assume really just that the router blocks direct contact to my pc ip and ports unlike the old 56k modems. Which is why as I understand it I have to port forward any thing I want to have direct access to my machine. In short I cannot connect directly to the ADSL line. Mind you I does raise a point shouldn’t I just be able to launch the game on any port not used by other software as a test since just running the game should have nothing to do with people out side my Lan being able to connect. I the past I have been paranoid about outside access to my PC and network. Is there something I could have turned off that blocks all ports/any port? Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted July 16, 2005 You may have inadvertently disabled/turned off something. You could look for a factory default settings button/option in your router and see if that helps or not. Since I have a seperate RCA/Thompson Cable Modem and then a Linksys Router/Gateway, I basically only have to monitor and configure my Linksys unit. Once in awhile the cable company will inform me of a speed increase and you have to power cycle your modem to get the new DOCSIS configs from them. Nice having a 4Mb downstream now Share this post Link to post

Depends on the app I suppose, however, with my limited coding skills, I'm going to say that the OS does this at the request of said application. Having said this it's a mute point of your hardware firewall filters these TCP/UDP packets from said port(s). Share this post Link to post
HuntTheShunt 0 Posted July 18, 2005 Hi all, User error ;( I did have:- E:\Games\SteamServer_v1120\hlds.exe -game cstrike +ip "public ip" -port 27015 +mapchangecfgfile "server.cfg" +log on +maxplayers 11 +map de_inferno +developer 2 I was in error using the public ip, must have read about it somewere.
