lemasa 0 Posted July 31, 2005 I recently had to reinstall windows 98, when I did my sound card wouldn't work. I have downloaded the same soundcard driver from various different locations but for some reason it still isn't working. I have done every obvious thing possible. I now need someone knowledgeable to help me out. I keep being told that there is no PCI audio device driver...I don't know why. Anyhow, my soundcard is.. CMI8738/C3DX from C-Media. ANY help at all would be awesome, thanks! Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted July 31, 2005 OK first off, is this an onboard sound card ?!? If so then double check that all the options for the sound are enabled in the system BIOS, this means both the AC97 onboard sound being enabled along with the MIDI port too. If this is a secondary or expansion card, then do you have the onboard sound disabled ?!? This can cause all kinds of conflicts if you don't. Another possibility is that you need to update your motherboard chipset drivers, what kind of motherboard do you have ?!? Make/Model that is. You can find the latest drivers from the chipset manufacturers website, be it an Intel, VIA, SiS, ULI/ALI chipset. Sometimes the default Windows drivers may not be good enough so these have to be installed too. Share this post Link to post
