Recovering a partially defective CD and or AVI file?

Hey Gang,

I have a CD with a 700 MB avi file on it. When I try to copy it to my Hard Drive I get a CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) error. Which basically means it's about like a record stuck at a specific point. Can anyone recommend software to recover files from CDs (Specifically, because DataRobot works on HDs, but not CDs) or a title that recovers broken AVI files?

If the CD isn't physically damaged, as in scratched, the best software that I know of is Easy Recovery http://www.ontrack.com/software/ , but man, it's expensive for a one shot deal. Unless you'll be able to make it earn money for you later on, or that file is really important, it's a large chunk of change.

 

It does work, I've scooped files from a formatted HDD, very good software, very costly software.

Do you have an old CD-Rom drive 4x-8x speed?

 

If you do try reading the CD with it. This trick worked a couple of times for me.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the replies. I don't know what's happened to this phpBB (NT Compatible Forum), but it's pretty screwed up at this point. I used to get a notification e-mail when someone responded to my posts. I'm just now reading your responses for the first time . All of your suggestions were excellent. I will have to find a SCSI controller, if I'm going to do the 4x-8x suggestion and yes that does work wonderously well . That was something I once knew and had forgotten all about. I think I'll start by giving ISo Buster a try. I'll let you all know how it goes.
