Mark W 0 Posted February 29, 2000 I am having trouble sharing my cable internet connection. I have 2 nics in the "server" and sharing on the cable connection is enabled. The lan is functioning fine, I can see all the machines in net neighborhood and My net places. I can transfer files to and from the machines, however, I can't share the connection. I also noticed that the server does not always assign an ip the way it is supposed to to the client machines (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't). Does anyone know what I should be looking for to get this working? ------------------ C366@577, Abit BE6, 192mb PC100 Voodoo3 3000, SBLive Value, Hollywood+, AverTV/Phone 3Com 3C509 (Cable), Linksys 10/100 (LAN), Generic 56k modem IBM 20.5gb 7200, WD 18gb 7200 on HPT366 Pioneer 104s, HP7200i Share this post Link to post
Ekstreme 0 Posted February 29, 2000 I don't know much about cable, but if your are after a diff IP address for your client machine, you should ask your cable suppiler about the setup. IF you are just attempting to share the same IP address, in 98 make sure you have your DNS entries set to your ISP primary and secondary IP, and set the gateway to YOUR server's internal IP address. BTW, there are plenty of IRC networking channels, all you have to do is ask. Share this post Link to post
Mark W 0 Posted March 1, 2000 I am attempting to share the same ip. I don't think Mediaone/Roadrunner offers multiple ips in my area currently. From what I understand, win2k's sharing is basicly NAT. When you say set 98's DNS to ISP primary & secondary I'm not sure what you mean. I only have a primary as far as I know, and it is dynamic so it changes occassionaly. Also, I thought when you set ICS in win2k, it takes care of assigning ips to all the machines on the network. Mine does sometimes but not others. Thanks for your help and any networking links would be apprectiated. Share this post Link to post

Mark W 0 Posted March 1, 2000 I have a small home lan. USB nic in the win98 machine, Linksys nic in the win2k box, pcmcia for my notebook. I have a 10baseT hub. The win2k machine also has a 3com nic for cable. I will try irc later. Thanks. Share this post Link to post
