Arin 0 Posted October 23, 2005 http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=45099 I ended up getting another 2 sticks of 512 mb corsair xms pc3200 2-2-2-5. I checked cpu z and it said that I'm running my ram at cpu/14 so its about 150mhz... it should be 200. I used an older version of cpu z and it reported it running correctly. So I ended up flashing my bios to the new version and now I'm a bit confused. the new version is still reporting the wrong frequency. I checked the bios and I dont see any way to change it. am I wrong here or is something messed up? Also with my processor, shouldnt my L1 cache be higher than 64 kbytes? whats up? jmmijo 1 Posted October 24, 2005 @Arin, I can answer the L1 cache question for you, you have to add both the Trace and Data L1 cache's together to get the 128K total of L1 cache Look at AMD's website for more CPU comparisons. Also, I do notice that CPU-Z is reporting that you FSB is listed at 200MHz, this means it is running the RAM syncronously with the FSB, otherwise it would be reporting the FSB speed of only about 140MHz like you said. This could just be a reporting issue with CPU-z and really does not reflect what it really is running at. You could also try running benchmarks like 3D Mark which gives you system info like the speed of the memory and such Share this post Link to post

Arin 0 Posted October 25, 2005 Yeah so basically it doesnt show my memory clock.... and now come to think of it, in my bios I have a setting that allows me to limit what the max clock of the memory can be so it doesnt bump its self over that limit on accident. I have it set to 200mhz and If I remember correctly below it, grayed out so I cant change it, it said 166mhz. . When I was just running the 2 sticks, I was getting 200 in that spot. Soemthing has to be up, but I dont konw what. Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted October 25, 2005 OK, you just solved it yourself, it was working fine with two sticks of memory and now with 4 sticks things are whacky. Well, remove the pair of new memory modules and retest and see if things go back to normal or not. My guess is that maybe one or both of the new sticks have a faulty SPD on it and of course this is being misread by the BIOS which in turn feeds the diagnotistic apps the info. Arin 0 Posted October 25, 2005 Ok, I tested the ram. The system insists on running at 166mhz for the ram when I have 3 or 4 memory modules installed. If I have installed 1 or 2 it runs fine. WTF? The book never mentioned this... I guess I'll have to sell these fucking fast ass pieces of ram and get 2 1 gig chips. What a fucking joke.... Share this post Link to post

Not necessarily, you should double-check with Gigabyte on this one. You do have the latest BIOS rev installed ?!? Also note that since this is an nForce 3 chipset, there maybe some things that are limited, i.e., 3 or 4 sticks of memory vs. 1 or 2 sticks of ram. Arin 0 Posted October 25, 2005 I looked around the net and found people all reporting this... apparently it can only run two sticks at that ddr400... above that it runs them at ddr333. I got a64 tweak and adjusting it to 200mhz is not possible. it just locks up. Share this post Link to post
