sphlanx 0 Posted November 2, 2005 Hello ppl. I need to install linux for a homework in university. To do so i got an old hard disk from a friend and tried to install linux redhat 7.1. The drive had one Win98 partition. The installer said that i had to manually fix the partition cause it cannot do that automatically. So i used fdisk and it seems that i screwed thinks up cause when i tried to install linux said something about errors on the partitions! So i boot with my primary disk(wich run under winXP) and used partition magic. It recognizes 2 disks the one i am running on and the other i tried to partition. Anyway when i try to partition the disk with the "Add partition wizard" it says okay but when i click apply NOTHING happens!! Here is the info about the disk as shown by PartitionInfo: It shows 3 partitions: a) 1 extended(primary) Size(4118,2mb) PartSect(0) #(0) StartSect(63) Total Sect(8,434,062) one "EPBR"(Logical) Size(0), Part[censored]t(NONE) #(--) StartSector(63) TotalSect (63) and finally one Unallocated(Logical) Size(4110) PartSect(NONE) #(--) StartSector( 16,065) Total Sector(8,418,060) I dont have a clue on what's happening! Please help cause the homework deadline is pushing!! Thanks!! Share this post Link to post
fpin 0 Posted November 2, 2005 Well, as I understand you have 2 partitions on second HDD, but one of them is 0MB. I think you need first shrink win98 partition, and only after that you could create new partition (make it primary). By the way, once I looked over Partition Magic, but I didn't like its wizard and it seems to me un-comfortable in use (from DOS). So I use Acronis Disk Director (from Windows, with good intuitive wizard), I've never had any problem with it. Share this post Link to post
