nonommy 0 Posted November 9, 2005 One of the laptops at work, an Acer Travelmate 4020, started typing slashes all by itself today. The user stated that it would beep repedialty when she'd shut down and start back up again but I never got it to do that for me. However everytime I tried to log on to the network the username and password fields were filled with ///////////////////////. The second I clicked in the field ////////////////////////would type all by itself. I eventually out-typed it and got logged in. When trying to type in a web address the same thing happened. I did two virus scans and came up with nothing. After the scans and 2 reboots everything was fine. I have no clue what's going to happen tomorrow when she tries to log in but oh well! The laptop is XP SP2 and the server runs Windows Server 2003. I don't get it and we are temporarly without an IT guy so I'm doing the best I can until the new guy starts. Is this a new virus? I searched McAfee and Norton without any luck. HELP!!! Thanks in advance! Jamie Share this post Link to post
Cormac 0 Posted November 9, 2005 Go to this address and try their virus scanner. http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner. Then if that shows up clean go to this address and use their malware scanner and see what it shows. http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/ax/ If both of those come back clean, I am not sure what to try next. One of the others on here can help you after you try those 2 things Share this post Link to post
Relic 0 Posted November 9, 2005 If you can't find anything with a virus scan, check the keyboard. I was going nuckin futz one time with my own system, I couldn't boot up, when I finally did, all kinds of funky things were happening, I was sure I had a virus. In the end, my "F12" key, and my "Insert" key were stuck down. I had just painted my keyboard. But, small pieces of donut could have the same effect, make sure the "forward slash" key is not stuck in the depressed position. Sometimes, the simple things can bite yur butt. nonommy 0 Posted November 10, 2005 Well it does appear that the key was stuck. Everytime she closes the laptop it starts again. All I have to say is we've had nothing buy problems with the Acer products we've bought. We had tablets before this and we had to send them all back. Oh well, this one goes back too now. Thanks!
