G-Unot 0 Posted December 10, 2005 First of all I tryed to run Return To Castle Wolfenstein. It uses the same setup as Quake 3, and yet Quake 3 works when it does that installer. In which case CW doesn't. And also the OS I'm using is XP. This is the error I get Wolf 1.32 win-x86 May 1 2002 ----- FS_Startup ----- Current search path: C:\PROGRA~1\RETURN~1\main\sp_pak3.pk3 (14 files) C:\PROGRA~1\RETURN~1\main\sp_pak2.pk3 (232 files) C:\PROGRA~1\RETURN~1\main\sp_pak1.pk3 (1342 files) C:\PROGRA~1\RETURN~1\main\pak0.pk3 (4775 files) C:\PROGRA~1\RETURN~1/main ---------------------- 6363 files in pk3 files execing default.cfguak couldn't exec language.cfg execing autoexec.cfg Hunk_Clear: reset the hunk ok ...detecting CPU, found Intel Pentium III Bypassing CD checks ----- Client Initialization ----- Cmd_AddCommand: map_restart already defined ----- Initializing Renderer ---- ------------------------------- ----- Client Initialization Complete ----- ----- R_Init ----- Initializing OpenGL subsystem ...initializing QGL ...calling LoadLibrary( 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\opengl32.dll' ): succeeded ...setting mode 3: 640 480 FS ...using desktop display depth of 32 ...calling CDS: ok ...registered window class ...created window@0,0 (640x480) Initializing OpenGL driver ...getting DC: succeeded ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 32, 24, 8 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 32, 24, 0 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT ...restoring display settings ...WARNING: could not set the given mode (3) ...setting mode 3: 640 480 FS ...using colorsbits of 16 ...calling CDS: ok ...created window@0,0 (640x480) Initializing OpenGL driver ...getting DC: succeeded ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT ...restoring display settings ...WARNING: could not set the given mode (3) ...shutting down QGL ...unloading OpenGL DLL ...assuming '3dfxvgl' is a standalone driver ...initializing QGL ...WARNING: missing Glide installation, assuming no 3Dfx available ...shutting down QGL ----- CL_Shutdown ----- RE_Shutdown( 1 ) ----------------------- GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem Now, when Quake 3 Arena runs it doesn't have a problem as I stated above, but this does. I've tryed to go on the ATI Homepage a few times and I've had nonthing but bad luck Now on to my question, do I need to update my driver, or the OpenGL itself? I have done hours of Google Searching and I've came up with nonthing in the end. Any help would be great Thanks. Share this post Link to post

DosFreak 2 Posted December 11, 2005 You could try setting your desktop res to different color depths. If 32bit (does Rage support 32bit? It's been 6 years since I tried gaming on a rage128...and half-life ran like crap), seen alot of Rage chips in servers tho....they do 2D fine. Also search the net for unofficial Rage drivers...there was a site where a guy put together Rage drivers because ATI was too pathetic to create proper drivers themselves...but I can remember his name even tho I should because he's pretty well known for helping out poor pre-radeon video card users. ( ATI radeon drivers are a million times better nowadays but their OGL support is still sorry compared to Nvidia). Share this post Link to post
