mjwebb007 0 Posted December 12, 2005 Just a quick request for a step method for troubleshooting. I am building a new system with the following components: AMD A64 3500+ (with Zalman 7000B LED fan) OCZ Gold PC3200 1GB RAM MSI RS482M4-ILD ATI Xpress200 MB Antec Phantom 350 PSU ATI AIW X800XL (2) Maxtor 300GB DiamondMax 10 (in mirrored RAID) Plextor 712A DVD-RW Anyway, as soon as I press the power button the LED on the PSU comes on, the CPU fan comes on then all of it kicks off (it isn't even on for a second). I have checked all the connections (the PSU is modular but worked just fine in the system I just took it out of). I was using this same processor and video card and memory in the previous system so I know it is probably not a loading issue. Should I strip the system down to bare necessities and start there? What steps should I take to start an efficient troubleshooting session? Thanks for the help (in advance). Share this post Link to post
Sampson 0 Posted December 12, 2005 When it happens this fast, check to make sure the motherboard is not grounding out against the case somewhere. Share this post Link to post
mjwebb007 0 Posted December 12, 2005 Maybe a stupid question but are you saying I should just do a physical check or actually get my multi-meter out and do resistance checks? Share this post Link to post
Sampson 0 Posted December 12, 2005 Just a physical check. Something has to be shorting out since the machine is not even getting to the beep signals which normally tell you what to look for. Share this post Link to post
mjwebb007 0 Posted December 13, 2005 OK. I think I may also disconnect and reconnect all the modular plugs being that they ARE modular, though I would think this would only prevent a component from working and not the system. Share this post Link to post
mjwebb007 0 Posted December 26, 2005 Ended up being a bad cable for modular PSU. Shorting out. I hate when that happens. Share this post Link to post
