currie1990 0 Posted December 28, 2005 Hi everyone, just got a decent amount of money for christmas and i thought i would use it to upgrade my computer, I already know that i will be getting a 200gb hard drive, 2gb more RAM. The problem is that i would also like to buy a new processor, but my motherboard is not exactly that good, but i do not want to have to upgrade it, it says that it has a socket 462 processor socket, so i was wondering what is the best processor i can buy for this type? it is currently running an AMD athlon XP 2600+ (1.92 ghz if thats relevant). The other problem is that i also have about £100 pound to spend on a graphics card and i was wonderin what is the best one to buy for this money, im currently running a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 128 mb. Thanks for any help you can give. Sam. Share this post Link to post
peterh 1 Posted December 29, 2005 You can only fit the Athlon XP processor range into Socket A type motherboards (which is what I have). You might be able to go as far as Athlon XP 3200+. The replacement is the Athlon64 but that means a new motherboard.... As for graphics cards, go as high as you can, you can get the Nvidea GeForce 6800LE for about £101.01 from Dabs.
