Palos 0 Posted March 3, 2000 I think you need to give us a bit more details than "i have a 27Gb HDD and then i put an old 8 Gb back in..." Tell me: - you are using both drives now? - did you have a letter (D) assigned to a network drive BEFORE you plugged in the new drive? - Are you using the "logon and restore network connections" option? Give it a bit of effort when explaining your problem in the future Share this post Link to post
MAC 0 Posted March 3, 2000 Sorry mate was in a bit of a rush right i had an 8gb hard drive right. then i whent out and brought a new 27 gb HD and replaced my 8 gb one i installed win 98 on it and everything was fine the 3 drives i had was © hard drive (d) CD ROM and (E) CD writer Right then i decided to put my old 8gb hard drive back in so i plugged it up and it is detected at startup as secondry master then it is also displayed in my computer as drive (E) and my CD writer is now (F) right i wanted to then put win 98 on this new drive (E) but when i try to install 98 is says you cannot install 98 on this drive, so i tried reformatting it and it says you cannot format a network drive.???? i have not got that network thing enabled either mate i dont know what i did (if anything) to make this a network drive again any help much appreciated if you need more info pls tell me as i really need to get this sorted. as my aim is to have Windows 2000 on the 27gb drive and 98 on the 8 gb drive thanks. ------------------ MAC Share this post Link to post
slkh 0 Posted March 3, 2000 I am not sure if I get your scenario correct, you have a new drive, now you want to have two hard disk running win98 (seperately). Is that correct? Or your new hard drive already have Windows 2000 in it? If either of them applies do this. Unplug your new hard drive (pull off the ide cable), now use a boot disk (with cdrom support), your 8gb will appear to be your c drive, and install your windows in it (format c: /u/s + fdisk /mbr then install windows). After installation, plug back your ide cable for your new hard drive. NOw, if you want to boot from yoru new hard drive, then you use boot sequence of c, cdrom, a or any combination with C as the primary boot. If you want it to boot from your 8gb windows, then choose D, A, SCSI under the BIOS setting. Those settings are set from BIOS (Award). If you have some other type of BIOS, say AMIBIOS, your setting would be something like 2nd IDE Channel/3rd IDE Channel (Sorry, not too familiar with AMIBIOS) Share this post Link to post
