Wont Work

Recommended Posts

Just to start: I have a ASUS SK8'N Motherboard, AMD Opteron 1.8, NVIDEA 6600 VC, 1g ram, Win XP Pro.

Last night i turn off my computer. When i turned it back on this morning, the puter would turn on, but no dice with the screen. So i figured it was my monitor. I pluged my monitor in my wife puter, and it works. So its not that. I traded out my Video card with a different one, and same blank screen. So it cant be that. I traded out my hard drive, and same problem.

I can hear the puter reading and making the same boot up noises it always makes, so i know that it is actually loading. I just cant see it. If its not my Monitor or my Video Card, what could it be?

rma it? what does that mean?

If it's still under warranty, you RMA it, which means you get a Return Merchandise Authorization number, and send it back for a new one. smile

Well i got a new motherboard. Got it installed and all the wires connected right. Press the power button, and nothinghappens. The same thing happened when i first got my other motherboard, and my buddy discharged a capasitor or shorted something. and it worked. just wondering what i could do to make it work.

When you turn it on do you hear any noises, does the power light come on?

If not, then you have a dead power supply and need to replace it.

What kind/brand of PSU do you have, and how many watts is it putting out? The specs should be on the label on the side of your PSU. Specifically, how many amps are on the 12V rail?

Have you tried a different PSU? As Cormac suggested, this could be a PSU issue.

Also, having your buddy help out with: "discharged a capasitor or shorted something is not good, this is not how we go about trouble-shooting a system!

No offence meant, but how experienced are you(and your buddy) when it comes to building systems? Many people can talk the talk, all the terms are available anywhere on the net, but not all can walk the walk.

Do you understand what your system specs mean, and what each spec stands for?

We're all here to help you learn, and there's nothing wrong with not knowing, there is something wrong with not understanding, and pretending you do.

Personally, I think your bud has no clue, we just don't short out/discharge capacitors, you could get dead doing that, on top of frying a mobo.

My PSU:

Antec 550w

0.8a min 24a max AMPs.

Look bub, i never claimed to know a lot about this stuff. My buddy on the other hand pretty experienced. after i left this thread i asked him what he shorted. It is the POS and NEG on the power button jumpers that you short. What that does is sometimes when you get a new mobo, the capasitors are full (I dont know which ones) and need discharged. It workes, he did it to my shit before.

I know what my system specs are and mean, and im not trying to talk the talk/ walk the walk. I am asking for help. I wouldent be here if i knew what i was doing.

There is nothing wrong with no knowing, but there is something wrong with jumping in someones shit because they do somthing that you dont agree with.

Look bub,...

That's far enough for me, kiss my azz, moron, you'll get no further help from me.

BTW, your buddy is an idiot, and has no clue what he is doing, if he toasts your system, all the more power to the pair of you.

What a pair of foching morons. laugh
