Buckie 0 Posted March 8, 2000 Hiya. This is a new problem and neither myself nor anyone I asked so far could guess what was wrong. The problem is Win2000 network. There are two computers using 2 Realtek 8029AS cards (on BNC cable) and ... Windows 2000 Pro. I have access to another computer and can even browse the contents. BUT, something wierd happens: sometimes the window with shared dirs may 'hang' and then disappear. Or when I start copying some file (1Mb for ex.) it does some 20% of it and then (a minute later) produces a funny error notifying me that 'the network path doesn't exist' or something. Even more funny: I've tried EVERY protocol Win offers - TCP, IPX, NetBEUI, both together and apart... And I always get the same result - it works, but it is as unstable as modem connection on a noisy line. Why, I'll tell you more: NT4 located on a separate hard drive when started accesses this another 2000 machine without a single problem! (using TCP). And finally, a clue: I've tried running the following ping command on both WinNT and 2000: ping -t -l 65000 192.168.1.2 . On NT it pings continuously and the time is 110ms. 100% packets delivered. On 2000, the time is 120ms and I occasionally see 'Request timed out' message (4 in a row, then reply is back). Thus, I get 14%-40% packets lost during transmission. Now, if anyone experienced this before, WHAT the hell may be the problem, why does it tend to lose packets?? The network config is minimal, the install is clean... I even tried changing slots for the NIC... Disabled 'Register this connection's addresses in DNS'... It's all the same for any config. Please help! Share this post Link to post
Greggy 0 Posted March 8, 2000 Your likely to find that if you install a new NIC in your Win2000 box things will clear up. I am using Windows 2000 Pro with an Intel EtherExpress PRO+ 10/100 and the networking has been faultless with other Win 9x/NT4/2000 and UNIX boxes. Share this post Link to post
