Computer plays no sound -- Help Please?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum and joined it because I really need help.

The sounds on my computer don't play. No music, nothing. When I try to play the music on my Media Player -- an error pops up saying the file won't be able to play.

I think I know why -- I just had the tower cleaned out and when it came back everything was running smoothly. When I logged into my account, there'd be a pop-up saying that it's downloading an Audio Mixer or something liek that. It asked if I'd like to Stop the installing or Continue it. I chose to stop and that's when my audio device stopped working. No kind of sound would play. Then when my sister logged into her account -- the same pop-up appeared and I told her to Continue it. The sound started working again. My younger sister, not knowing any better, logged into my Moms account and stopped it and ever since then -- there were no more pop-ups and the sound isn't working again.

I tried everything the Troubleshooters could give me -- nothing worked. I finally found 4 sound devices my computer uses. Out of the 4, only 3 worked. It's called the Microsoft Synthesizer, and I'm sure it's my default sound device. When I check out the DirectX Diagnostic Tool -- an error pop ups. This is what it says...

`Error: Problem getting extra sound info, result code= 0x80070057 (Invalid argument(s))`

I really need help. If anyone has gone through a similar problem and can help me, please reply!

Thanx!

What sound card you got? Built-in or PCI card?

If you do not know, get SiSoft Sandra Lite. Install and start it. Click Hardware tab, then double-click Audio Devices. It should display your sound card.

When you know what card you got, head to card's manufacturer home page and search for driver. If you do not find them, post back and we try to help you more.
