Myke 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Another point: can your CD-ROM recognize any other CD that is inserted? If not, try rebooting. If your CD-ROM cannot be read before Windows boots, as asked by fps.dyl, then there is definitely something wrong with your drive. Make sure that all cables are snuggly in place and the insides dusted out. If the drive works before windows boots up, but not once you are logged in, then there is most likely a driver issue (it may have become corrupt and needs to be reinstalled). If the drive works after Windows boots up, then you may have had a problem reading a disc in Windows before the reboot. The most common cause of this scenario is trying to rip a CD that is all scratched up. The drive then fails to read anything. Lastly, this is going to be a stupid question, but needs to be asked: are you sure that your CD drive can burn CDs? Share this post Link to post
