Recommended Posts

Hello there forum members, I have a problem with starting my sims 2 game, after I had installed all 4 cd's succesfully.

to start game I needed to have my cd 1 in drive. after doing that and clicking on start, I keep getting the error message. cant find cd rom.

The cd is being read my the cd romas I can access it to read.

please help as I have had anough of this.

What I have found since posting my thread,is that it could well be something to do with my cd rom set up.

I burned some mpeg's to a cd using nero to convert them to video cd and they can be played on windows media player and also I can access the files using incd4,but when I burned the same mpegs to cd using incd4 copy and paste, they stay as mpeg's doing it that way. they can not be read by the cd rom and actually show nothing in the cd's file, EMPTY..

By the way I need to clear up the fact that I have been burning these mpegs with another pc in the house.

On another thread on this forum I also posted a problem with Gigabyte board not detecting IDE on start up text or BIOS what ever u call it,but also wont eccept cd and dvd roms to be plugged in at the same time, windows XP wont start up it freezes when its about to open up on main page with both roms hooked up in the same IDE cable or indavidually.

Problem is probably a simple one , if u have experienced this before, but for those of us that havent,it's a night mare..

cheers

I have tried everything, on this forum to my knowledge, but I still get the error please insert disk 1 into drive, make sure u have the correct disk.

Disk is ok as it works on another computer,it also loaded ok onto my computer with all other 3 disks.

Its when u insert the disk to start playing the game it reads the cd 1 and the sims 2 window pops up and just before it goes to the big black screen with MAXIS I get the ERROR message.

CD rom spins around like crazy trying to do its job,but something in my pc is not allowing it too, Could it be gremlins?

Could it be something to do with graphics card ?

Like i said , i have cheched and double checked all information provided by this forum, please anybody have any ideas.

cheers.

My system info will be posted on the next post.

1) I read your other thread and made some suggestions. As I recall you found the problem by jumpering the CD properly.

2) InCD4 generally requires you to use a special CD that is erasable. Write once CD's don't usually work with it.

3) You called this a gremlin, which means it can be any number of things that are a problem. So, we can look at the possibilities.

You think that it might be the video card. It is an nVidia board using an ATI card. It is certainly possible there could be an internal conflict because the companies are competitors, but probably not. However, you are using Microsoft drivers for the ATI card, so using the proper ATI drivers might correct something.

I have read that the nForce ATA driver is problematic. I have seen that some find the latest driver from nVidia to correct the ATA problem. In more a radical some have uninstalled the nVidia driver and allowed Microsoft to install its Adaptec version.

Before you do any of these you will want to go into your device manager and see if the drives are being recognized properly and you will want to see if they have DMA or PIO support. Throughput is better with DMA support.

Off the wall - some spyware and anti-virus programs can interfere as do several type of firewalls with certain games.
